The Mango Masterclass: How to Ripen and Store Your Mangoes Like a Pro
So, your box of Lakshmi Farm mangoes has arrived. Some are fragrant and soft, while others feel a bit firm. Don’t panic—this is by design! We ship them at varying stages of ripeness so you can enjoy them over several days.
Here is how to ensure every bite is perfect:
-
The Paper Bag Trick: If your mangoes are firm, place them in a brown paper bag at room temperature. They release ethylene gas, which speeds up ripening naturally. (Pro tip: Adding an apple or banana to the bag speeds it up even more!)
-
Avoid the Fridge (For Now): Never put an unripe mango in the refrigerator. It stops the ripening process and can "chill" the flavor right out of the fruit.
-
The Squeeze Test: Don't judge a mango by its color (some stay green even when sweet!). Instead, give it a gentle squeeze. If it gives slightly—like a ripe avocado—it’s ready for the knife.
-
The Golden Rule of Storage: Once fully ripe, then move them to the fridge. They’ll stay fresh for another 3 to 5 days.
